MICROBIOLOGIST
I was a microbiologist at Toohey's Brewery (Sydney), then Technical Officer in Microbiology at La Trobe University (Bendigo), and finally an academic at La Trobe University (Bendigo), before concentrating on producing & promoting sound & video art.
teaching
from 1997 to 2004 I lectured in microbiology in the Pharmacy Dept at La Trobe University (Bendigo). Subjects I taught included Introduction to Microbiology, Microbial Ecology and Systematics, Applications in Biotechnology, Molecular Biotechnology, Food Science Essentials, Water Science Essentials, Intermediary Metabolism, Pathology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Oncology, Infection and Immunity, Environmental Health, Pathophysiology for Nurses.
research
my main research interests in microbiology were:
bacteria causing foaming problems in activated sludge, especially members of the mycolata
taxonomy of mycolata
actinophages in activated sludge
fractal analysis in microbiology
lindenmayer systems (modelling growth of microbes and musical interpretations of these models)
