POSSIBLE MUSICS
(1983-2013)
From 1983 to 2007 Jacques Soddell presented a regular program on local (Castlemaine/Bendigo) community radio atation 3CCC-FM. After a short break he returned to present it on a new community radio station Phoenix FM broadcasting from Bendigo, Australia.
The program covered a range of experimental, exploratory, avant-garde and innovative musics from john cage's silent music (4'33") to the industrial noise of Merzbow via minimalism, electronica, Sonic Youth, improv, free jazz, drum 'n' bass and a thousand other labels music journalists have invented.
It featured local Central Victorian, Australian & international artists and led to the formation of Undue Noise as an outlet for live performances by local artists.
The last program was broadcast on May 9 2013.
"Wherever we are, what we hear is mostly noise. When we ignore it, it disturbs us. When we listen to it, we find it fascinating. The sound of a truck at 50 m.p.h. Static between the stations. Rain. We want to capture and control these sounds, to use them, not as sound effects, but as musical instruments." John Cage on the future of music - from a lecture given in 1937
